The Xbox Wireless Headset is a sensational product from Microsoft that's a must-buy for any Xbox gamer. Boasting a flawless wireless connection backed up by seriously impressive audio and a ton of quality of life features.
We'd expect to pay triple the price to experience this sort of sound quality, particularly from a wireless headset, though there is a caveat you need to bear in mind. We found that to get the most out of these headphones, you'll need to spend time tweaking the EQ in the Xbox Accessories app to dial in exactly how you want them to sound. That's a good thing, as everyone hears sound differently and has preferences for bass, mids, and highs.
We're also extremely pleased that Microsoft didn't forget to include a good microphone on the Xbox Wireless Headset. You'll probably get a more prosperous, slightly fuller tone from the boom mics found on competing headphones. Still, the Xbox Wireless Headset's microphone sounds excellent and has clever technology like auto-mute to eliminate background noise when you're not speaking.
The overall design of the headset is also superb, with a premium feel that completely belies the cheaper price point Microsoft has managed to achieve. Simply put, if you're in the market for a wireless gaming headset to go with your new Xbox Series X or Xbox Series S console, or even if you're a PC gamer, the Xbox Wireless Headset is as good as it gets.
The Fenrir, despite being massive, is also just as light, a sign that the engineering of the materials has worked properly.
On the sides, we find a tribute to a creature of Norse mythology which gives the name to this headset: in fact, in correspondence of the ear cups, with a green that stands out against the black of the headphones, it is possible to admire the silhouette of a wolf, Fenrir precisely.
A little touch of class is given by the fact that, by connecting the headphones to a USB port, the wolf's eyes light up thanks to an integrated LED light; for obvious reasons, this gem does not work when we connect the headphones through the good old man 3.5mm audio jack.
Beyond this purely aesthetic gem, the Fenrir is noted for numerous attractive solutions, which, in addition to not being taken for granted, have satisfied me exceptionally.
First of all, the choice made for the cable integrated, which allows you to easily overcome the distrust that we may have in front of wired headphones; first of all, both the audio jack and the USB port are present at the same time, which avoids us having to store and pull out any adapters when needed. Moreover, the chosen material is sturdy and allows for a long life of the hardware.
The new and improved Kraken is a decent gaming headset and will serve you exceptionally well for action games, shooters, and anything with a lot of noise and bluster. It's excellent at bass but less so across the whole range of audio but does punch above its weight considering the price tag and simplicity of the build.
The Kraken is simply designed and quite elegant in places, but the color scheme is polarizing, and some materials feel a little cheap. It's clear why the Pro V2 became such a big name in gaming headsets, and this is technically a better model. Still, the world expects more features and slightly superior audio in 2019, so if you're planning to invest in a Razer headset and can spend a few dollars more, the Tournament Edition might be a better choice because of its enhanced audio and better volume control features.
