In April 2021, after battling COVID-19, David Bradshaw learned he had pulmonary fibrosis because of the infection. Doctors near his home in Sarasota, Florida, told him that a lung transplant would be necessary. Having lived in Scottsdale, Arizona, Bradshaw, 69, reached out to Mayo Clinic. “We were familiar with the Mayo Clinic and its reputation for high-quality health care,” says the amateur singer-songwriter, who also writes a blog. “When my life is strongly impacted by something, I will often write up a story and song on the topic to share with others.”
In February 2022, Bradshaw began the evaluation process with the transplant center in Jacksonville. A few weeks later, after dozens of appointments and myriad tests, he got the approval to join the transplant wait list.
“Following my visits at the Mayo Clinic, I felt so impressed with the rich history, the overwhelming graciousness of the staff, and the sense of peace I felt during my two weeks of appointments on the campus, that I was compelled to write a simple song to express my gratitude with ‘The Mayo Royal Treatment.’”
