Stereo camera experiments using diafilm and a homebrew stereo camera

Please read the description/textbox. Stereo photography is fascinating. I did it in the past, say the 1980’s and 1990’s and want to pick up it now again.

I make 2 (standard) 35 mm dia’s, cadre them in, and watch them in a simple diaviewer, you can make that by connecting 2 mono viewers together via a metal strip or so. Very easy and simple.

Here I show a very primitive stereo camera that I made in the past, by “gluing” two camera’s from the ex DDR (German Democratic Republic, Beirette’s, 1980’s) together (with polyester paste/resin). You can still find these Beirette camera’s on the www.

Of course many adaptations must be made: a construction to press the 2 shutters at the same time, a “lengthened” camera body (backside, must be stiff and closed for external light) etc. Of course you can also buy a stereo camera on the www.

When you want to glue/mount 2 camera’s together to “homebrew” a stereo camera: sawing into a (or 2) expensive analog camera(s) makes completely no sense, of course (!).

This is a disclaimer (!). Their mechanisms are far to complicated and it will not be succesfull.

So go to the 25-40 Euro camera budget for such an experiment. A shutter speed of 1/60 second is in general OK, that is the standard speed for these cheap camera’s. A 35 mm lens is ideal, lens sensitivity of say F 3.5 (minimum) is also ideal.

Diafragm setting: between F 3.5 and F 16 or F 22 at 1/60 of a second. That is a standard kind of success model for this setup. Of course: try, test, make probe dia’s etc. Preferred a lens with which you can get to say 1.5 meter distance for portraits.

Of course I know that nowadays you can also do stereo photography in an electronic way. Many circuits about that are (also) on the www, say via a Raspberry or whatever mini computer with 2 webcams or so. Also very interesting and “a sea to drink”. I don’t know much about that technology.
Viewing your home, rooms, children, husband, family, garden, tourist locations via 2 dia’s in a stereo way is fascinating. You will not forget these views.

My You Tube channel trailer is here: https://youtu.be/xbgQ8T3oqh4 When you search, search always “NEWEST FIRST” to get the right overview. You can also search via the “looking glass” on my Channel trailer via keywords like ”audio”, “radio”, “amplifier”, “filter”, “Shortwave”, “transistor”, “FET”, “oscillator”, “generator”, “switch”, “schmitt trigger” etc; so the electronic subject you are interested in. My books about electronics & analog radio technology are available via the website of "LULU”, search for author “Ko Tilman” there.

https://www.lulu.com/search?adult_audience_rating=00&page=1&pageSize=10&q=Ko+Tilman I keep all my YT videos constant actual, so the original video’s with the most recent information are always on YouTube. Search there, and avoid my circuits that are republished, re-arranged, re-edited on other websites, giving not probable re-wiring, etc. Some persons try to find gold via my circuits. I take distance from all these fake claims. I cannot help that these things happen. Upload 14 april 2022.
