Roy Parker Road Railroad Crossing, Ozark, AL

*originally recorded on 3-26-22*

Signal on the left: 3 pairs of WRRS 8 inch lights, an NEG electronic bell, a WRRS gate mechanism, and RECO LED gate lights.
Signal on the right: 3 pairs of WRRS 8 inch lights, an NEG electronic bell, a WRRS gate mechanism, and RECO LED gate lights.

This was the only train I caught on March 26th. I had just checked through the crossings in Newton and was approaching Pinckard for any upgrades, when I heard a nearby defect detector going off. Not thinking too much of it, as I was approaching the first crossing in Pinckard, I saw the tail-end of a northbound train to my east, so I quickly turned-around and raced up to this crossing to get it. After a bit of waiting, the northbound I'd seen the end of came through. It turned-out to be CSX Q650 with a pair of ES40DCs for power.

This crossing is a very nice one, having originally been installed by the early SCL back in the late-60s and still remaining mostly original. It appears that the only major change here occurred sometime between 2013 and 2018, when both of the original WRRS mechanical bells here were replaced (likely due to them dying). Thankfully though, the crossing does still retain its original pair of fully 8 inch RACO cantilevers (with all of their original WRRS lights) and a pair of these rare WRRS/US&S (IIRC) gate mechs, one of three crossings in Alabama with them. The closer signal also still retains an older diagonally striped gate arm on it, which is quite nice to see. The backgrounds on the overhead lights on both signals are also all very nicely faded & aged looking, which I think gives a nicer feel to this crossing. The mast lights were equally faded when I was here in 2018, but when I came back in 2019 CSX had recently repainted them all. The mast lights have gotten a bit faded again over the years though.
This was one I'd wanted to get back in 2019, but sadly wasn't able too. As such, I'm quite glad I was finally able to get it on this trip.
