Round Baling with Steam - Making the Rounds with Dave Staheli

The DewPoint 331 steamer is making a big splash in the small square bale retail market. However, we have also learned that farmers who bale round bales deal with the same challenges of getting the right amount of moisture to make a quality product. Making high-quality hay for cattle, dairies, and other livestock is important to many operations using round balers. Over the past several years, we have been actively testing the smaller version steamer, the DewPoint 331, in a round baling application.

Follow Dave Staheli as he makes the rounds in his old hometown of Enterprise, Utah. Dave is doing some final field testing of the DewPoint 331 round bale application. He increases the valve size on the steamer to inject more steam into the round bales. He also makes a minor adjustment to the hardware design which eliminates crop buildup. The "Ramp-Up" feature built into the software automatically adjusts the steam rate as the bale forms inside the baler. With these final adjustments made, the first DewPoint 331 round bale steamer is sent to Colorado for more field testing and demonstrations.

Dave is baling with a John Deere 560R and pulling the rig with a John Deere 6130R tractor.
