Pressley Street Railroad Crossing, Greenwood, SC

*originally recorded on 2-28-22*

Signal on the left: 1.5 pairs of WCH 8 inch lights, 1 WABCO 8 inch light, 2 pairs of Safetran 12x24 inch lights, a dying WCH mechanical bell, a Safetran gate mechanism, and RECO LED gate lights.
Signal on the right: 1 WCH 12x24 inch light with a Leotek EV Series LED, 1 Safetran 12x24 inch light with a Leotek EV Series LED, 1 pair of WCH 8 inch lights, 3 pairs of Harmon 12x20 inch lights, a WCH mechanical bell, a WCH gate mechanism, and RECO LED gate lights.
Seaboard Avenue signal: 1 RACO 8 inch light and 1 RACO 12x20 inch "No Right Turn" light.

After watching the mixed freight come to a stop, I stopped recording and hung around for a bit. After a little bit, this southbound autorack train was approaching so I quickly made my way over to this crossing, just barely beating it. Here we see this southbound autorack train going through Greenwood with a CM44AC leading an ES44AH.

This crossing is a fairly nice one, featuring what looks to be another SCL install from the late-70s. It appears that pretty early on, I believe sometime in the 80s, the front mast lights on the far signal were replaced with the current WABCO/WCH pair. Then, in the 2000s, CSX replaced the original WCH gate mech on the far signal with the current Safetran one, and it appears that all of the Harmon 12x20 inch overhead lights were also replaced with the current Safetran 12x24 inch lights, though one of the rear lights was a re-used head from the 90s while another rear light was a 12x20. Between 2008 and 2012, however, the 20 inch background on the far cantilever's overhead lights was replaced with a 24 inch one to match the rest. The crossing then remained unchanged until sometime between 2019 and 2021, when the remaining pair of Harmon 8 inch mast lights on the closer cantilever were replaced with the current 12x24 inch LED lights. No idea when the No Right Turn signal was installed here, though I'm guessing it was installed here back in the late-60s by the SCL, and was likely retained from a previous SAL/SCL install that had been here when these current signals were installed.
It's nice to see that both WCH mechanical bells are still here and work, though they do sound a bit rough at the very least. In fact, the far one seems to be starting to die, given how long it takes for it to start. Hopefully they're able to be given a tune-up. The crossing still retains most of its original lights as well, which is nice to see, along with the original WCH gate mech on the closer cantilever signal. Hopefully these signals will be around for many more years to come, but either way, I'm glad I was able to record them this time around. And with this crossing as well, I've been able to record all of the RACO equipment in Greenwood!
