After catching Q602 in Fort Deposit, I continued my way south documenting the crossings along the M&M Sub. When I got down to this crossing in Owassa, I saw that CSX had a northbound lined, so I got set-up for it. Didn't have to wait too long though, as after a few minutes this northbound mixed freight came rolling through with an AC44CW leading an SD40-2 on the head-end and an ES44AH working as the mid-train DPU.
This crossing is a pretty nice one, featuring a pair of older gateless cantilevers at it, though they've been modernized over the years. It appears that these signals were installed in the 80s by CSX, though in the late-90s most of the overhead lights and at least one of the bells here were replaced with the current Harmon 12x24s and GS Type 1. Then, in the 2000s, CSX replaced all of the mast lights and the other bell with the current Safetran 12x24s and GS Type 2. Finally, sometime in the early 2010s (it appears), CSX upgraded this crossing to LED, though thankfully with no major changes since.
Even with this crossing being well modernized, I'm still glad I got it recorded. It's always nice finding another GS Type 1, and it sounds pretty decent paired-up with the Type 2 on the other side. The rear overhead lights on the far signal are also still the original MI 12x24s, which I'm very glad to see still remain, even if they're LED now. Would've been nice if this crossing was still incandescent, but either way, it's not a bad one.
