At least two homes along North Carolina's Outer Banks have been washed out to sea because of a strong coastal storm in the Atlantic Ocean.
This is the second home, located at 24265 Ocean Drive, to collapse along Ocean Drive in Rodanthe, North Carolina, the Cape Hatteras National Seashore confirmed Tuesday. Another home, home located at 24235 Ocean Dr, also collapsed.
The National Weather Service has issued a Coastal Flood Warning. A storm off the Southeast of the United States is driving winds over 40 mph into the beaches of North Carolina. Harsh onshore winds and waves from the storm are causing overwash and erosion.
Crews are working around the clock to keep NC 12, the only road into and out of the coastal communities, clear of sand and water. Flooding of the roadway has been an ongoing problem.
Residents and tourists are asked to stay off the beach and out of homes along Ocean Drive. Storm damage is expected to be washed ashore from the OBS house collapses.
The storm is expected to batter the coast through at least Thursday.
James Brierton, from the Carolina Weather Group studios in Charlotte, provides this report and update on the coastal storm impacting OBX.
