Mason Road Railroad Crossing, Rising Fawn, GA

*originally recorded on 3-5-22*

Signal on the left: 2 pairs of Safetran 12x20 inch lights, a General Signals Type 2 electronic bell, a Safetran gate mechanism, and NEG gate lights.
Signal on the right: 2 pairs of Safetran 12x20 inch lights, a Safetran gate mechanism, and NEG gate lights.

After catching NS 130, I continued working my way north on the NS AGS North District documenting crossings. While I was around here in Rising Fawn, I heard NS 130 meeting an NS 109 to my north, so I decided to set-up at this crossing since I felt it was a bit on the more interesting side of the two in this town. Here we see NS 109 coming through on its way south with an NS SD70ACe pulling on the head-end and a BNSF ES44DC and an NS ES44AC working as the mid-train DPUs. Always do kinda find 1+2 arrangements like this a bit odd, NGL. This was also the only other train I caught on this day.

This crossing is a fairly decent one, if a bit on the boring side. It appears that originally, there was a late-SOU/early-NS MI install here that was pretty much still entirely original as of 2008. Then, sometime around 2010, NS replaced the signals at this crossing with the current ones, and the crossing basically hasn't majorly changed since.
While it is a bit on the boring side, this is one that I'm glad I got to record. Both of the signalized crossings in Rising Fawn were upgraded around the same time, it appears, and basically have the exact same set-up (with both having the tall masts NS likes to occasionally do). However, due to some sharp bends around this crossing, the front lights on the closer signal here (and lenses on the gate lights) are angled to make them more visible for approaching cars. As such, the front-right light on the closer signal is mounted on a small extension to make it more visible, which I think looks rather neat, hence why I chose to go with this crossing. This would probably make for a good angle with a northbound, but, TBH, this crossing will probably be rather low on my "to record/rerecord" list for the AGS North, lol.
