How to Create a Timeline in Excel

If you want to create a timeline in Excel, then it is possible in the 2013 or later versions of Excel. Let’s see the steps to create a timeline in Excel.

1. In a new spreadsheet of Excel, click on the Insert tab in the Ribbon at the top.
2. Under the illustrations section, click on the SmartArt button.
3. Click on the Process option from the left side.
4. Select the Basic Timeline with the right directional arrow, and click on the OK button at the bottom.
5. Start typing your text on the right side of bullet points.
6. Be sure that the graphics of the timeline is selected.
7. In the Design tab, click on the Add Shape After.
8. This will add one more event.
9. Type the name of this newly added event.
10. You can click again on the Add Shape After in the ribbon to add more events.
11. If you want to edit the text of the timeline, then select the event and rename the event name.
12. You can move and place timeline graphics anywhere in your spreadsheet.
13. If you want to change the color and style of your timeline, then in the Design tab, click on the Change Colors.
14. Select a color and style of your choice from the Primary Theme Colors window.
15. This will change the color theme of your timeline in Excel.
