Fred George Road Railroad Crossing, Tallahassee, FL

*originally recorded on 3-28-22*

Signal on the left: 4 pairs of Safetran 12x24 inch lights, a General Signals Type 2 electronic bell, a Safetran gate mechanism, and NEG LED gate lights.
Signal on the right: 1 pair of Modern Industries 12x24 inch lights, 1 pair of Safetran 12x24 inch lights, 2 pairs of Federal Signal 12x20 inch lights, a WCH mechanical bell, a dead Federal Signal mechanical bell, a Safetran gate mechanism, and NEG LED gate lights.

After catching TA-Local at Eisenhower Street, I chased it up to this crossing on the Bainbridge Sub and set-up to wait for it. After a little while of waiting, we see the train as it continues its journey north towards Georgia.

This crossing is another rather nice one. It appears that originally, the signals here were a gateless SCL install from the mid-70s. Then, in the 1980s/early 90s, CSX replaced all of the 8 inch mast lights here with MI 12x24s, like with most of the rest of the crossings in the Florida Panhandle. Next, in the mid-90s, CSX installed gates here, removing the rear mast lights from the cantilevers and disconnecting the Federal Signal bells that had been there. Finally, at some point in the early 2000s, the far signal was replaced entirely with the current one, and no changes appear to have occurred here since.
Seeing cantilever crossings like this, which were once gateless but later upgraded with gates, is always rather neat, IMHO. I also do find it kinda interesting when there's a crossing bell abandoned in place on top of a cantilever like this, as I usually don't see anything like that in the part of Alabama I'm from. Bit of a shame that the FS bell here was disconnected though, as I believe it's the only one on the Bainbridge Sub (that isn't WRRS branded, at least). Hopefully these signals remain unchanged for a good long while as well.
