Button Hall Avenue Railroad Crossing, Goose Creek, SC

*originally recorded on 2-26-22*

Signal on the left: 2 pairs of WCH 12x24 inch lights, a dying WCH mechanical bell, a WCH gate mechanism, and RECO LED gate lights.
Signal on the right: 3.5 pairs of Modern Industries 12x24 inch lights, 1 pair of WCH 12x24 inch lights, 1 Safetran 12x24 inch light, a dying WCH mechanical bell, a WCH gate mechanism, and RECO LED gate lights.

After the northbound mixed freight came through, I decided to head to this crossing (the next one up) as I figured the sun was gonna be on this side of the tracks for a while yet, and this one would be better to record on this side, so I set-up here and waited. Turns-out that I didn't have to wait too long, as this second northbound mixed came rolling through about 10 minutes after I caught the first one with an ET44AH on the head-end and an ES44AH working as the DPU on the rear.

This crossing is another fairly nice one, featuring a 1980s CSX install that's still largely original and still has both original WCH mechanical bells and WCH gate mechs. It appears that, in the early 2000s, CSX replaced one of the rear lights on the cantilever here with the current Safetran 12x24 inch light, with no changes since.
Sadly, both WCH mechanical bells are definitely on their way out, as they both click when starting and sound decently rough. The closer one is definitely much worse-sounding though, so I suspect it'll die before the other one. Hopefully CSX gives them both some TLC, but I wouldn't be surprised if this crossing gets an NEG e-bell pair before too long. Either way, I'm glad to see them still here, along with most of the rest of the equipment CSX installed here back in the 80s (especially the WCH gate mechs).
