Hi Everyone :)
Welcome back!
I get asked often: "Where did you get all this stuff?" My goal is to share the real magic of science and physics- and to this end I will update here (and in my store) suggestions on where to get some of these toys, kinetic art pieces, and scientific curiosities for yourself.
Purchasing items from the links on these pages will help support my IG page of science and wonder.

ππ» Dancing Drops @exploratorium: an exhibit employing the CoandΔ effect on water droplets -an air stream attaches and wraps around the drops temporarily trapping them.
ππ» Jacob's Ladder: high voltage arc rises due to the heat of the plasma created by the current ionizing the air.
ππ» Solar Eclipse and Lunar Eclipse
ππ» Incline Gravity Clock: powered by gravity this clock has no batteries or mainspring- however, once each day the clock must be picked up and placed back at the top of the ramp. As the clock rolls down the incline (here 12 hours are captured in time-lapse of 24 seconds), gravitational potential energy is translated into the kinetic energy of the moving clock gear train and oscillating balance wheel. The clock face and mechanism hang suspended with a counterweight that keeps them upright- although you might notice the mechanism of this vintage clock sticks a little at 7 oβclock. The clock unit is also quite heavy, weighing in at 2.7kg (6lbs). After some research I believe this clock was produced in China about 50 years ago.
ππ» Thermochromic Safety Sticker: the liquid crystal ester dye in this reusable sticker is calibrated to change color when the surface temperature exceeds 50Β°C (122Β°F)- that at which prolonged contact (more than 0.5s) with metal risks burns to skin.
ππ» Photopolymer Hologram Stickers: as a point source of light held above is moved from side to side, three animals seem to move their heads about in these vintage hologram stickers from the 1990s. Unlike photographs, holograms are recordings interference patterns of light waves, and incredibly what you see is created by information encoded in a layer thinner than a piece of paper!
ππ» Solar Sculpture: the paths of 5000 magnetic field lines etched into optical quality glass map the complex flow of plasma in the Sunβs outermost atmosphere replicating how the solar corona appeared on Oct 21, 2000. A map of our wonderful and complex star that can be held in the palm of your hand.
ππ» Airplane Glory: optical phenomenon that forms rings of color in the clouds- in this case around the shadow of my 737 flight, and is not the same physical process as that of a rainbow.
ππ» Celestial Sphere: the positions of 5068 stars as they appear in the night sky- along with 88 constellations, laser etched into a crystal sphere.
ππ» Micro Racer in a Glass: (a favorite demo) This tiny battery powered car overcomes gravity through centripetal acceleration and slight friction with the glass surface.
ππ» Magnifying Glass Hologram: this photopolymer hologram is so realistic one can look at the circuit board through, or around, the lens in this 1980s reflective hologram.
ππ» Mathematica Eames Souvenir: from the 1961 opening of βMathematica"
