(Almost Missed) Lackey Gap Road Railroad Crossing, Collinsville, AL

*originally recorded on 3-6-22*

Signal on the left: 2 pairs of Safetran 12x20 inch lights, a General Signals Type 2 electronic bell, a Safetran gate mechanism, and NEG gate lights.
Signal on the right: 2 pairs of Safetran 12x20 inch lights, a General Signals Type 2 electronic bell, a Safetran gate mechanism, and NEG gate lights.

After documenting the remains of the TAG between Kensington, GA, and Chattanooga, TN, and then spending a few hours wandering around Chattanooga looking for upgrades, I decided to head on down to the NS AGS North District to see if I could get anything. When approaching a crossing I wanted to record, I heard a defect detector to my south going off. After realizing it was for a southbound 109, I hopped onto I-59 and chased it down towards Fort Payne. I hopped off in Fort Payne to head towards this crossing, where I saw another southbound waiting on the main there for a northbound train.
As I was arriving at this crossing, something called a nearby signal, so I hopped out of my car and grabbed my tripod, but the crossing activated as I was setting-up. The train turned-out to be NS 61C, which had a nice lash-up with an AC44C6M leading an ES44AC, an SD70ACe, and another ES44AC. This train also had a friendly crew, which was great to see.

This crossing is also a pretty decent one, if a bit on the boring side. This crossing, like many others on the AGS North in Alabama, appears to have been installed in the early 2000s by NS, and hasn't really changed since. In fact, this crossing even still retains both of the original diagonally striped gate arms, which is very nice to see, IMHO. Will probably see about trying to get back here at some point for a better video, but either way, I'm glad I was able to get it recorded before either gate arm gets replaced (if they do get replaced before I can get back here).
The lights on the closer signal are also aimed to the right at a sharp angle due to the sharp curve in the road right before this crossing.
