8-3-22 508 Siren Alert Test, Decatur, AL

This morning, since it was the monthly test of a couple of systems in my area, I decided to get on up and get out to Limestone County to get another one of the Brownsferry 508s recorded. Decided to set-up at the one across US 31 from the Decatur Calhoun Community College campus, since it was relatively close and I hadn't recorded it yet.

At the start of this year, TVA (and thus, Limestone, Morgan, and Lawrence Counties) changed the test day for their sirens from the second Monday to the first Wednesday of the month, but kept the same 9:15 AM test time. This was my first time recording the sirens at the new test time, but otherwise, it seems this was a fairly standard test, with this 508 going for 3 minutes of alert.

This 508 replaced a Thunderbolt 1000 that had been at just about the exact same location back in the early 2010s when TVA upgraded the Brownsferry system. Just under a mile to the south of this siren is another 508 which had replaced an STH-10 siren at about the same time, and can be heard pretty well after this one shuts off. After the sirens have wound-down, you can also hear what I believe were some 508s from Morgan County across the Tennessee River. Wasn't entirely sure at the time if it was those sirens or if it was some machinery nearby, so I went ahead and shut-off my camera before those stopped, but I do believe they were some of the 508s in Morgan County around Decatur.

Limestone County, AL tests on the first Wednesday of the month at 9:15 AM, weather permitting.
