Alexis and her husband have a small cattle operation in southern Minnesota, but they were each nearly an hour from home when she got an alert from their Ring Video Doorbell: there was movement in front of their house, as they saw that all 38 of their steers had escaped.
“We had no idea they were loose until they ran in front of the Ring camera,” says Alexis. But this isn’t necessarily out of character for the cattle crew that she describes as “notorious for being very curious. They are like big puppies — always getting into trouble!”
So when Alexis saw that they all made a run for it, “My first, reaction was to laugh,” she says. “Then to make a bunch of calls to go round them up.” With this heads up, nearby family members quickly helped them safely return each of the runaway steer. “Otherwise we may not have known until hours later and it would have been much more difficult to locate all of them,” she adds.
